Birthday Celebration Weekend

This weekend's birthday celebrations for Sabrina and  Randy had definite high moments and definite low moments.   One of the high moments was going to Poogin's Porch in Charleston and having this family photo taken.   We have one similar in the same booth from about five years ago.

After lunch we strolled down Broad Street and entered some of favorite art galleries.   The artwork is so inspirational and even the courtyards are lovely.   This courtyard was charming and we spent some time enjoying it.

The Splaeto (?) Festival was in town which meant musicians and artists were to be found on the streets.   Sabrina really liked the music from this musician.

Five years ago we had a family portrait taken by this planter.   We had to take it in shifts this year until we found a couple to help us out.

All of us are in the photo.   Sabrina is hiding behind Randy as she had a sudden onset of shyness.

Philadelphia Alley is famous for the dueling that happened in it during the early days.   The wall hid it from the churches' view and so in the darkness of the walls shadows things happened that would not otherwise.   Charleston is known to be the City of Churches and most illegal activity happened where people could not see a church steeple.

St. Phillips Church is seen behind the wall.   This part of Philadelphia Street was near the entrance on one end.

Sabrina took this photo.   Not bad!

On our walk down Anson Street, we stopped at this Episcopal Church which usually is closed.   Very simply but elegantly decorated with the nature behind the windows.   Beautiful gardens in the back.

Unfortunately, when we returned to our car we had not one but two parking tickets.   We have parked in this space before without problem and even felt the signage and paint markings were not clear.

The faded yellow paint was behind the car.   No signs were posted restricting the parking in this space.   One the way home Sabrina became car sick...not the way we intended to end the day.

Sunday Morning the birthday girl opened her present from us.

Then she hugged Randy.

Holding up a cute card!   After church we went to a friends house for a swim party/ BBQ and had fun connecting with friends.

Unfortunately, in the evening Randy had a little accident and cut his eyebrow and sustained a black eye.   After almost four hours in Urgent Care and six stitches, we returned home.   It was then he realized he had a cut on his shoulder.

The eye was blackening and is sure to hurt.   Randy's birthday will be quiet.
Randy's birthday...the next morning.   Eye is a bit darker.   Opening gifts.

Sabrina made him pictures

and a card!

Sewing Group

Since the start of the new year, Monday nights have been spent quilting.   To get women who have fabric addictions in the same room is dangerous but a blast!

This table runner was made out of fabric from Oregon and Georgia and will be giving to the hostess of the sewing group.   It is always amazing to see what the same fabric in different designs does together.   This pattern was a modified log cabin and had different looks depending on the orientation of the block.  It could have been a lattice, shadow box, path or several other different options.

Florida

Our Saturday trip started with a drive to St. Augustine which we have been to before.   We strolled into shops and then had lunch at Columbia's Restaurant which was a perfect way to start the day.

The Visitor's Center displayed some very interesting overall history of the city.

An old sword and gold treasure were found in the bay.

El Galeon is in port for tourists to board and explore.

The entry to the old historical part of St. Augustine.
On the way back to Savannah we detoured to the public beach at Amelia Island.

Very busy beaches!

The waves were strong and the life guard station had red flags up to indicate possible rip tides.

Sabrina enjoyed just sitting on the edge of the water.

Digging a hole with her foot.

Last day of Pre-K

All of the kids put their hand prints on this t-shirt which they wore the last day of school.

Sabrina had a great year and learned so much at school.   We will miss her teacher and class but look forward to Kindergarten in the Fall!   Yikes!   Where has the time gone.

Jekyll Island with Schielers

For the first few hours all we saw of our children were the tops of their heads as they dug and sculpted the sand.

Castle with a pool.

Ok.   We'll smile!

Randy started a hole which became our marker for the water reaching us.   It grew as the afternoon progressed.

In the hole.

Up to my knees.

With the hole sand, the kids made a fort.

Hiding.

Cheese!

Time to boogy board.

Splash!

Learning how to ride the waves.

With some help.

Two cold bodies warming up after hours of water fun!

After a long tiring week, this day was just what we needed!
