Savannah Weekend

Randy treated us to a weekend stay in Savannah right along the Savannah River. Our room overlooked the river and just out the back door of the hotel, we could walk up Bay Street and instantly feel we were back in time. The cobblestone streets and old brick buildings could no doubt tell many stories. Along the edge of town was a Pirate House Restaurant. This was linked to one of the oldest standing buildings in Savannah. If a person needed a reason not to get drunk in public, this establishment would give reason: drunk men were taking down into the tunnels of this Pirate House and placed on board pirate ships. They would come to when the ship was at sea. Either join the crew or walk the plank!

Other interesting sites we saw were beautiful squares all over the city. One famous square made it into Forest Gump. We walked through that square but did not take pictures because it was getting dark. The founder of the city placed twenty four squares in the layout of Savannah. Most had fountains, gardens and park benches.

Another famous location in the city was the birth place of the founder of Girl Scouts!

Savannah was celebrating Christmas with imported snow and dancing along one of its prominent streets!

Big Fish, Blue Fish....

We have been reading Dr. Suess books about fish and Sunday, Sabrina had her first trip to the aquarium. Not only were there fish, but sharks, eels, snakes, penquins and a bald eagle. She was memorized by the fish in the great big aquariums...until naptime.

Shed some light on it!

Last time we went to Fort Moultrie it was sunset. Most of the fort we could not see nor did we know it was there. This time we went inside the fort and took in the view of the Charleston Harbor. Amazing how one place has history from Revolution and Civil Wars. Now it is a museum and thankfully the guns are silent.

First Trip into the Atlantic water!

Last Saturday we ventured out for a trip to Isle of Palms to picnic at the beach. The cool wind prevented us from sitting on the beach for our lunch, but it did not prevent Randy from wading into the Atlantic with Sabrina in the front pack. She loved watching the waves and was kicking her legs with excitement.

Take time to smell the flowers

Along the path yesterday, we noticed a lunar moth (at least I think that is what it is) smell the flowers. What a nice site for November!

First Bite!

Time has flown and it is getting to a point where Sabrina watches other people eat and drink and drools. So, we thought it must be time to try a little rice cereal. Some of it may have made it down, but as you can see Sabrina thought much of it on her face would help her complexion! When she was done eating, she had to have more fun on her jumping toy! She might be part kangaroo!

"Some" Assembly Required!

Yesterday, we purchased a jump/ activity station. This morning was assembly day. They really need to say "most" assembly required instead of "some"! Sabrina watched in anticipation as I clicked and fitted things together! Good thing I have a Science teacher's background and have assembled lab equipment! When all was put together, what joy and excitement came from Sabrina as she explored. After fifteen minutes of play, she was so exhausted, she crashed on her blanket for a nap!

Grandma Joyce visits

Sabrina woke up this morning to the surprise of Grandma Joyce's arrival. Grandma Joyce brought bright colored cups and measuring spoons which were a hit right away! Cooking in the near future?! We went window shopping and decided to try on glasses! I think Sabrina has a bright future!

Then we came home for story time in Grandma Joyce's lap! A great day!

On fours

We noticed last night that S got up on all fours and was rocking like she was about to crawl. Our days are numbered before we need to totally safety proof the apartment.

A walk in the park

Sunday was a gorgeous day and so the family took a walk around all the neighborhoods north of our place. We noted that the layout of the area is wonderful with lots of parks between houses or central to houses. It makes up for smaller yards.
One park we found was an island in the middle of a grassy area! Azaleas were still blooming from last year.

Music and toys

This week we have been spending time listening to music and practicing the sign for "music". S really likes to kick her legs and dance. Another milestone this week is that S has been selecting toys and books. She has discovered the toy box in the living room and now knows how to dump it.

The three Ss

This week my little S has decided she likes Sinatra music...yes, FranK Sinatra. She also likes Harry Belefonte' music but after listening closely to the lyrics of the "Boo, boo" song, I think we won't be listening too much to it. Huey Lewis is also a favorite! She appears to enjoy the horns and upbeat music in all the songs. Her little body kicks with glee when we put on music.

The next S stands for Sign Language. We are starting our journey of teaching her sign language so she can communicate before she learns to speak. The words we have been working on our "milk", "music", "change diapers" and "more". I am hoping to sign more words but those are our focus words. ... now if we can get the DVD of childrens signed songs to play in the DVD player!

And the last S, stands for "snooze". We are focusing on getting S to take more regular naps. It really has not been a positive adventure, but I think giving her a few days to get the hang of an afternoon nap time will be a good thing. ...for everyone!

S was super squirmy this morning. Her legs were nonstop kicking
