Torch and Waving Girl

The last section of the walking tour looped us back along River Street.   A statue we have been by dozens of times and did not know what it was turned out to be the Olympic Yachting Cauldron from the 1996 Olympics.   We continued our tour walking down what is called Rousakis Plaza.   These is the brick pathway that stretches down River Street along the Savannah River.   In the early 1900s, this area was a bunch of old rotten shipyards.   The path eventually lead us to the Waving Girl which is a tribute to a real lady who would greet ships with waving a handkerchief by day and holding a lantern at night.   The lady lived on Elba Island which is down river on the Savannah River.

After seeing the Waving Girl we worked our way down the river front to complete our loop back to the car.   On the way we stood on the X for the echo square and looked at boats and people along the pathway.   It was a great tour and we are planning on walking the other three soon.
